Gauge:
9 sc blo x 8 rows = 5x5cm/2”x2”
Finished Size
Finished headband measures 9.5cm/3.75” in width and 43cm/17” in circumference. This size should fit most teenage and adult heads, with 7-15cm/2.5-6” of negative ease.
Both width and circumference can be easily customized by following instructions.
Abbreviations (in US terms):
beg – beginning
blo – back loop only
ch – chain
rep – repeat
sc – single crochet
st/s – stitch/es
Notes:
- Headband is worked sideways in spiral rounds throughout, without closing off each round.
- When using different yarn, forget the gauge and remember:
- WIDTH is determined by the length of the foundation chain folded in half.
- CIRCUMFERENCE is determined by the length of the tube, ie. number of rounds. Keep in mind that the sc blo stitch is stretchy. When not stretched, the length of the tube should be at least a few cm/inches shorter than the actual head circumference, to allow negative ease.

PATTERN
Ch34.

The width of the headband is determined by the length of the foundation chain folded in half. If you want the headband to be narrower/wider, deduct/add chains respectively. This may affect yarn quantities required.
Round 1: Sc in beg ch, being careful not to twist the foundation chain. Sc in each ch around.

Round 2: Sc blo around.

Rep Round 2 sixty one more times, when the tube measures approx. 43cm/17” lying flat (not stretched), OR wrap around your head to decide if it should be shorter or longer. Deduct or add rounds accordingly.
Keep in mind that the headband will stretch over time, so be careful not to make it too long = too loose.

Once you are happy with the tube length, fasten off, leaving a long tail.
Fold the tube in half. With tapestry needle, mattress stitch around the tube edge, joining foundation chain with the last round.

Weave in ends.
