Supplies
- US G-6 (5 mm) crochet hook
- scissors
- needle
- yarn: approx. 250g/8.8oz of worsted weight yarn (or any other yarn – see sizing info in Notes!). I used scraps of Caron Simply Soft (100% acrylic, 170.1g/6oz, 288m/315yds)
You can use one to 26 colors, depending on what you like or what yarn you have. (I really mean it: make the hood one color or change color in every round, or mix 5-10 colors). If you have a very small amount of any of the colors, just use it to make one of the first few rounds!

Notes
- Hood consists of two squares, joined along two sides, and a ribbed cuff around neck hole.
- Squares are crocheted in turned rounds.
- Start each round with ch3, that counts as dc throughout.
- Whenever you want to change color in the next round: make last yo of the final slip stitch using new color, then cut off current color.
- IMPORTANT SIZING INFO: Sample hood measures 30cm/12” in width and is worn over 57cm/22.5” head circumference. You can easily make it bigger or smaller, by adding or removing rounds. Also, you can use any yarn from your stash and forget the gauge, just keep in mind what follows:
Square should measure approx.: head circumference divided by 2, with addition of about 1cm/0.5”, depending of how much ease you like.
Made to measure method allows you to use any yarn from your stash and you don’t have to worry about the gauge. Just measure your square as you go and continue adding rounds until you reach desired size.

SQUARE 2
Ch4. Sl st to 1st ch to form a ring.
Rounds 1-12: Worked as Square 1.
You will be joining both squares in the last round. This method allows joining without any bulk on seam. However, if you have another preferred method of joining granny squares, like slip stitch, single crochet or sewing, feel free to use it. In this case, make Round 13 as described for Square 1, join both Squares on two sides and skip to Ribbed Cuff section.
Round 13 (or the last round): Sl st into ch2-sp, ch3, 2dc into ch2-sp, (cluster between two clusters) rep to next ch2-sp, cluster into next ch-2 sp, ch2, cluster into same ch2-sp, (cluster between two clusters) rep to next ch2-sp, cluster into next ch2-sp, ch1, sl st into ch2-sp in corner of Square 1, *cluster into same ch2-sp of Square 2, (sl st between two clusters of Square 1, cluster between two clusters of Square 2) rep to next ch2-sp, cluster into next ch2-sp, ch1, sl st into ch2-sp in corner of Square 1*, rep *-* one more time, sl st to top of beg ch3, do not turn. (52 clusters, 4 ch2-sp)
Do not fasten off.

RIBBED CUFF
Round 1: Sc in each st of side of Square 2, sc in ch2-sp of Square 1, sc in each st of side of Square 1, sl st in beg st.
Picture below (left) describes four sides of the square to better understand how to proceed in Round 1. Right picture shows finished hood for reference.
Square 2 is facing, Square 1 lies beneath.
A and B sides: these are two sides that were joined together in the last round.
C side is for the neck hole, ribbed cuff is worked around it. Once you complete Round 13 (or the last round) of Square 2, sc in each st of C side of Square 2. Once you reach the corner (bottom right on picture), sc into adjacent corner (ch-2sp) of Square 1, and continue working sc in each st of C side of Square 1, until you reach beg st of Round 1 of Cuff (bottom left corner on picture).
D side remains as it is, it’s the face hole of the hood.

Round 2: Ch11.
NOTE: Number of chains determines the length of Cuff. If you want it to be longer/shorter, add/reduce number of chains respectively.
Now work in rows, perpendicular to C side.
Row 1: Sc in second ch from hook and in 9 remaining ch, sl st in two next unworked stitches of Square.
Row 2: Skip 2 sl sts, 10sc blo, turn.
Row 3: Ch1, 10sc blo, sl st in two next unworked sts of Square.
Rep Rows 2-3 until you reach beg ch11. Close cuff with Row 3 worked into beg ch.
Fasten off, weave in ends.
