This gingham pattern is created by mixing simple solid squares in three shades.
These easy yet stylish tea towels can be made on a few evenings and used every day.
If you decide to actually use them, rather than just enjoy their homely, cosy, country looks…
Supplies
-US D-3 (3 mm) crochet hook
-Scissors
-Tapestry needle
-Yarn: Drops Safran (100% cotton, 5 ply/sport, 1 skein has 160 m/175 yds in 50 g/1.8 oz).

Find below yarn colors I used. You might change the colors as you wish, just keep in mind yarn A is the brightest, yarn B is the middle one and yarn C is the darkest of them.
SMALL TEA TOWEL
one skein each:
yarn A: marzipan 71
yarn B: pistachio ice cream 74
yarn C: sage green 04
BIG TEA TOWEL
yarn A: marzipan 71, 1 skein
yarn B: vanilla cream 10, 2 skeins
yarn C: sunshine 11, 1 skein
Gauge
Small square: 5.5cmx5.5cm/2”x2”
Big square: 9x9cm/3.5”x3.5”

Abbreviations (in US terms)
beg – beginning
ch – chain
hdc – half double crochet
rep – repeat
RS – right side
sc – single crochet
sl st – slip stitch
st/s – stitch/es
WS – wrong side
yo – yarn over
Notes
- For each tea towel, make given number of squares in each color.
- Squares are crocheted in turned rounds, ch1 does not count as a stitch.
- Once all squares are finished, join them with mattress stitch and add a border with loop.

Square
Make 12 in yarn A, 21 in yarn B, 9 in yarn C.
Ch2.
Round 1: 8sc in second ch from hook, sl st in beg st, turn. (8 sts)
Round 2: Ch1, *sc, (sc, hdc, sc) in next st, rep from * 3 more times, sl st in beg st, turn. (16 sts)
Round 3: Ch1, sc, *(sc, hdc, sc) in next st, 3sc, rep from * 2 more times, (sc, hdc, sc) in next st, 2sc, sl st in beg st, turn. (24 sts)
Round 4: Ch1, 3sc, *(sc, hdc, sc) in next st, 5sc, rep from * 2 more times, (sc, hdc, sc) in next st, 2sc, sl st in beg st, turn. (32 sts)
Round 5: Ch1, 3sc, *(sc, hdc, sc) in next st, 7sc, rep from * 2 more times, (sc, hdc, sc) in next st, 4sc, sl st in beg st, turn. (40 sts)
Round 6: Ch1, 5sc, *(sc, hdc, sc) in next st, 9sc, rep from * 2 more times, (sc, hdc, sc) in next st, 4sc, sl st in beg st, turn. (48 sts)
Fasten off. Weave in ends.

Make 6 in yarn A, 10 in yarn B, 4 in yarn C.
Rows 1-6: As for Small square.
Row 7: Ch1, 5sc, *(sc, hdc, sc) in next st, 11sc, rep from * 2 more times, (sc, hdc, sc) in next st, 6sc, sl st in beg st, turn. (56 sts)
Row 8: Ch1, 7sc, *(sc, hdc, sc) in next st, 13sc, rep from * 2 more times, (sc, hdc, sc) in next st, 6sc, sl st in beg st, turn. (64 sts)
Row 9: Ch1, 7sc, *(sc, hdc, sc) in next st, 15sc, rep from * 2 more times, (sc, hdc, sc) in next st, 8sc, sl st in beg st, turn. (72 sts)
Fasten off. Weave in ends.

BOTH SIZES
Arrange all squares as shown on pictures.
Using tapestry needle and yarn A, join all squares with mattress stitch. Weave in ends.

BORDER (both sizes)
Round 1: Join yarn C anywhere on the outer edge, work around edge: 1sc in each st, 3sc in each corner. Sl st in beg st.
Round 2: Ch1, sc to corner, ch20, sc in same corner, turn, sc in each ch, sc in same corner for the third time. sc to next corner, 3sc in corner, sc to next corner, 3sc in corner, sc to next corner, 3sc in corner, sc to end of round, sl st in beg st.
Fasten off. Weave in ends.
