To make it I used small amount of 100% cotton yarn, that is breathable, perfect spring/summer fibre. Most yarn brands offer cotton yarn in wide range of colors. You can also easily mix yarns from different brands and use up your stash!

This pattern is a great introduction to c2c – corner to corner crochet. Each next now is increasing by one c2c tile. As the kerchief has a triangle shape, there’s no decreasing, which makes the pattern perfect for c2c beginners!

If you’re looking for more c2c projects, have a look at my blankets: Africa Map C2C, Shooting Star C2C Blanket, Horse Jumping C2C Blanket.

Also, it is very easily customizable regarding size: just try it on as you go and decide how many rows you want to make. This way you don’t have to stick to the gauge, nor to the specific yarn.

I hope you will enjoy making this Spring Kerchief, and make more than just one!

Row 3: Ch6, 1dc in 4th ch from hook and two next chains, (sl st to space created by ch3 to join, ch3, 3dc in same space) twice, turn. (3 c2c tiles)

Rows 4-32: As Row 3, adding one more bolded section in every next row.

NOTE: Try the kerchief on as you go. If you’re making for smaller head, you might want to make less rows than 32. If the head is bigger, you might want to add a row or two, before making the last row with ties.

Row 33 (with ties): Ch51*, sc in second ch from hook and each ch across, sl st in 2 dc, (sl st to space created by ch3 to join, ch3, 3dc in same space) 32** times, ch51*, sc in second ch from hook and each ch across, sl st in dc.

*ch51 determines the length of the tie. If you want it to be shorter/longer, make less/more chains respectively.

**32 times refers to the sample size. If you’re making less/more rows than 33, 32 should be replaced by x-1 formula, where x stands for the number of rows you’re actually making.

NOTE: You can use this formula also if you have different yarn or gauge. Simply try the kerchief on as you go and adjust the number of rows accordingly.

Fasten off. Weave in ends.

Try colorwork – change color in the last few rows. This way you can also use up your stash!.
